Novo Testamento (from the Greek: Διαθήκη Καινὴ, Kaine Diatheke) is the name given to the collection of books that make up the second part of the Christian Bible, the contents of which were written after the death of Jesus Christ and are explicitly addressed to Christians, although within the Christian religion both the Old Testament (the first part) and the Novo Testamento are considered, together, Holy Scriptures.
The books that make up this second part of the Bible were written as Christianity was spread in the ancient world, reflecting and serving as a source for Christian theology. This collection of 27 books influenced not only religion, politics and philosophy, but also left its permanent mark on literature, art and music.
Novo Testamento Books
The 27 books of the Novo Testamento were written in different places and by different authors who classified their writings as inspired, alongside the writings of the Old Testament. However, unlike the Old Testament, the New was produced in a short space of time, over less than a century. These books were respected, collected and circulated in the early church as Holy Scriptures. The fact that these books were read, quoted, collected, and passed from hand to hand within early Christian churches ensures that the Early Church regarded them as prophetic or divinely inspired from the beginning. . The division of the Novo Testamento into sections and verses is attributed to Ammonius of Alexandria, in the 3rd century, and to Euthalius of Alexandria13, in the 5th century AD, who continued the work of Ammonius.
